Cowley Wins 50th Cap

Russ Cowley wins his 50th cap as Great Britain take on Estonia in the World Championship (Division 1B) in Eindhoven.

The 31-year-old becomes the 22nd player to reach the half-century after David Phillips was the 21st to reach the milestone in yesterday’s win over Croatia.

Cowley first played for the national team in 2003 and is appearing in his 10th World Championship.

“It is an honour to play for GB and extra special to make it to 50 caps,” said Cowley.

“I have so many good memories over the years and I am always proud to represent my country.

“Yesterday’s game was right up there in terms of excitement. It was an amazing turnaround and proves the spirit we have in the camp.

“We never gave in and kept on going and it was a fantastic finish.”

GB manager, Andy Buxton, said: “Russ has been a tremendous servant both at club and country level.

“Representing his country means a great deal to him and he was thrilled to be asked to represent his country again in the Netherlands this year.

“I know he will be very proud of his 50th cap.”

GB against Estonia faces-off at 12:30pm UK time.
