Mike Clancy has been named as the new head coach of Great Britain Under-16s, with his assistants confirmed as Ian Turley and Andy Brown.
Clancy, who as a player iced for Altrincham and Flintshire, will combine the role with his position as head coach of Widnes Wild.
Head of the GB Programme Board, David Hand, said: “I would like to thank Steven Lynch and Natalie Aldridge for their work with the under-16s and, of course, Simon Leach who has moved up to the under-18s.
“They did a fantastic job and on behalf of Ice Hockey UK, I wish them well in the future.
“We are excited about Mike, Ian and Andy joining the under-16s staff. I am sure they will make a good coaching team and they are perfect to help develop the next generation of young talent.”
Clancy said: “It’s an honour to be selected as head coach of Great Britain Under-16s and a role I cannot wait to get started on with the team and staff.
“I see this as a great opportunity for me as a coach wanting to further my experiences. It puts me in a great position to influence some of our future athletes, helping to shape them ready for 18s, 20s and senior men’s hockey within the GB programme.”
Turley will combine the assistant coach role with his position as head coach of Paisley Pirates in the SNL.
“I’m delighted to be joining the programme and feel I’ve been given a great opportunity to develop the country’s brightest prospects,” said Turley.
“To be able to represent your country in any capacity is fantastic, so to be selected for a role within the GB set-up feels like a good achievement and one which I will embrace and take with great pride.”
Brown will continue in his role as player-coach of NIHL2 side Bradford Bulldogs, as well as taking up his new position as assistant coach with the under-16s.
“I’m delighted to have been asked to be part of the GB Under-16s coaching team,” said Brown.
“After speaking to Tony (Hand) regarding the direction he sees the team going and the development plan that’s being put in place, it was something that I felt I could contribute to.
“It’s obviously a great honour to represent your nation and I’m excited to get to work with Mike and Ian, and start the selection process.”
