Dave Clancy has been appointed as netminder coach for the GB Women’s programme.
The 40-year-old former goalie iced for Altrincham, Flintshire, Manchester, Swindon, Blackburn and Deeside during a 19-year playing career.
Head coach of the GB Women’s programme, Cheryl Smith, said: “We are excited to welcome Dave to the coaching set-up.
“He has already been working with us for a while now and our netminders are responding well to his coaching.
“Dave is a very experienced goalie and also an experienced netminder coach and he will be a huge asset to the programme.”
Clancy said: “I would like to thank all the parties involved in appointing me as GB Women’s goalie coach.
“I especially want to say thank you to by brother Mike, head coach of Midlands U17s, who pushed me into hockey at the beginning.
“I am very excited at being given the chance of a lifetime to try and help goalies within the GB programme and the support I have from my wife and family is second to none.
“I have been involved in ice hockey for over 30 years and been fortunate enough to play for my country and at high levels in the sport.
“I have been goalie coaching for around 15 years to try and focus on improving not only goalies, but the coaching for goalies across the country.
“I have come into the GB programme with a very open mind, to try select and create the best goalies from across the country. This will be done through trials and watching games.
“I am so thankful to Cheryl (Smith) and James (Ashton) in allowing me to come on-board.”
