Butterfield Named GB Under 18 Captain

Great Britain Under-18s Women’s head coach Sean Alderson has named his captain for the forthcoming IIHF World Championship Division 1 qualifier in Katowice, Poland.

Kaitlyn Butterfield was been named captain of the GB Under 18 Womens team during the team’s recent training camp in Sheffield.

She said: “To play for Great Britain is an honour in itself, but to be able to represent my country as captain is the biggest honour I could possibly think of.

“I feel the team are all together in our aims to bring back the gold medal, with every player showing the passion and dedication needed.

“It’s also a great feeling, the coaches’ trusting me to lead the team.”

GB will begin their tournament on Monday 19th January against Denmark. The other teams in the group are China, Italy, Kazakhstan and hosts Poland.

Coach Alderson said: “Kaitlyn showed great leadership throughout the whole trial process and in the end she was the obvious choice for us.

“We have our final preparation camp in Widnes this weekend, after which we will be looking to name the alternate captains that will support Kaitlyn in Poland.”
