Bowns: Lyle’s Advice Invaluable

Great Britain netminder Ben Bowns says the advice and experience of Stevie Lyle has been invaluable during the World Championship in Eindhoven.

GB have begun the IIHF Division 1B tournament with wins over Croatia (3-2) and Estonia (2-1) and sit second in the table behind Korea after two games.

Bowns was named as man-of-the-match in GB’s opening game and has an impressive save percentage of 95%, saving 57 of the 60 shots he has faced.

Lyle is appearing at this 12th World Championship, while Bowns is playing in his third tournament.

Bowns said: “It is great having Stevie to learn from at this World Championship.

“He has been very supportive to me and I know I can turn to him for any advice I need.

“We have worked together well and it has been a great tournament so far.

“We work on things together in training and I can take his advice into a game.

“It’s funny as I watched him play when I was a kid and now here I am alongside him at a World Championship.”

GB play their third game of the tournament today when they take on another unbeaten side in Korea.

“Korea are a great side, they are quick and really talented,” said Bowns.

“It will be a tough game but we have taken great confidence from our first two games.

“I am sure it will be a great game and one that everyone is excited about.”

GB against Korea faces-off at 4pm UK time.
