Alderson: Poland Was Good Experience

Head coach Sean Alderson says Great Britain Under-18 Women’s 3-1 warm-up defeat by Poland was good experience for his young players ahead of the IIHF World Championship tournament, which gets under way tomorrow.

Seven players made their Great Britain debut as GB took a first-period lead through Kimberley Lane (Bracknell), but were undone by three Poland goals in the third period.

Alderson said: “We got everyone involved in the game, which we thought was very important going into the tournament.

“For the seven players who made their debut, it was a chance for them to experience hockey at this level without the added pressure of it being a championship game.

“We talked about the game after dinner last night and we know we need to make improvements in certain areas of our game going into the championships.

“We will regroup today, work on a few areas of our game in training and rest up ready for our game against Denmark tomorrow.”

GB against Denmark gets under way at 3:30pm (UK time) tomorrow and a webcast is available by clicking here http://imprezylive.pl/?p=6328

Alderson’s side will also face Italy (Wednesday), Kazakhstan (Thursday), China (Saturday) and Poland (Sunday 25th) in the World Championship (Division 1 Qualification).
