Peacock Joins GB Squad

Belfast Giants forward Craig Peacock will has been called up to the Great Britain squad as a replacement for Liam Stewart.

Stewart was due to win his first full international cap with GB in next week’s World Championship tournament in Eindhoven.

The 20-year-old, who has just completed his season with Spokane Chiefs in the WHL, injured his shoulder as his side lost their playoff series to Everett.

Peacock will now move up from the reserve list and take his place in the 23-man squad.

GB head coach, Pete Russell, said: “Liam is so disappointed not to be coming but he has picked up a shoulder injury.

“He has just had a really intense playoff series, including last night’s game which went to triple overtime, and his injury means he will not be able to travel.

“It is a shame for the lad but I am sure his time will come again in the future.

“It means a place now for Craig Peacock who was unlucky to be left out of the original 23-man squad.

“Craig is a highly-talented player and it was a hard decision for me to leave him out in the first place.

“I am sure Craig will prove me wrong that I should not have left him out.”
